From just 12 months old, babies can have incredible confidence in the water, whether they have joined our swimming lessons from a younger age or not. Our lessons for 1-2 year olds start to pick up the pace with more interacting and fun activities to help little ones learn. We start to introduce keywords and listening into these lessons as well as language and counting to help toddlers progress in their swimming.
Our 1-2 years lessons woggles and floats to help toddlers move around the pool independently. At this age, we focus on nurturing your child’s confidence in the water. We tailor each lesson to suit the unique toddlers in each class, so we can focus on their own needs and provide the encouragement they require. Our philosophy is to never force or undermine toddlers while they learn to swim, but instead to empower them to learn at their own pace.
During these lessons, toddlers will need support from an adult, and this can be a great bonding experience for parents, or even grandparents. Adults will learn how to safely teach children to interact in the water and help them to progress through the lessons.
During this crucial year in your child’s life, teaching them confidence and aptitude in the water is so important. Our 1-2 years swimming lessons include:
- Entering and exiting the pool safely without support.
- Responding to key swimming words such as kick, splash, reach, hold on and turn.
- Holding on to the edge of the pool, and moving along the edge without adult support.
- Swimming around while holding an adult’s back.
- Progressing to swimming on the back with support from an adult or float.
- Entering the water with a seated jump, either independently or supported.
- Learning to balance on their own with a woggle and move around the pool.
- Turning off the wall and swimming away with support from an adult.
- Progressing to underwater rotating to an adult.
